Do we really understand the power of the Cross?

Many Christians don’t fully grasp the power of the death of Jesus Christ on the cross, to completely take away ALL of their sins.

I know, because I was one of them and as they say, most of us are like the rest of us.

I spent years, actually decades, knowing God forgives sins and accepting this forgiveness for MOST of most past sins. But there were a couple of things I’d done that I continued to feel really bad about.

Periodically, they would come to mind and I’d go confessing and repenting again… and again, and again. This went on for years. I knew that the Bible said Jesus was sent by God to die for the sins on the whole world, but I couldn’t seem to be free of an ongoing sense of guilt.

I am so thankful that one day, it was like the Lord turned on the light while I was reading Colossians 2:13. Suddenly, I understood that through Christ, God had already forgiven ALL my past sins.

Every single sin had been forgiven and God didn’t remember any of them. So who was I to keep bringing them up? That day, I realized that the Son had truly set me free!

On the cross, Jesus said, “It is finished!” (John 19:30).

In this verse the word ‘finished’ in the Greek is ‘tetelestai,’ which is an accounting term meaning, ‘paid in full!’

We don’t need to revisit our past sins over and over – they are paid in full.

2 Corinthians 2:17 tells us that, ‘If anyone is in Christ, he/she is a new creation. The old has gone and the new has come.’

Hallelujah, it is finished!

Blessings, Lynda
